OK hands up those of you who, on reading that, immediately thought of the Abba song? (I’d have my own hand raised if I weren’t typing!). In some ways, this song is very connected with what I have to say about money – ever really listened to the lyrics of this song:
I work all night I work all day,
To pay the bills I have to pay,
Ain’t it sad!
And still there never seems to be,
A Single penny left for me,
That’s too bad!
And the chorus has the words “Money, money, money, it’s a rich man’s world!”
Blimey! Never a truer word spoken (or in this case sung). That’s right isn’t it? You can’t get anywhere without money? Everything we need must be bought with money? That’s what we’re led to believe. Talking of beliefs – how about some of these sayings and limiting beliefs about money:
- it doesn’t grow on trees
- it’s hard to come by
- filthy rich
- dirty money
- working for a crust
- working our fingers to the bone
- scratching out a living
- the rich get richer, the poor get poorer
- money is the root of all evil!
I’m sure there are loads more that you’ve heard before or even say to yourself right now. But that last one – is money really the root of all evil? Is it? Surely money is just a physical form of energy? Something which we exchange for something else. In and of itself, it’s not really evil. That’s like that knives are evil. Yes, of course, knives can harm others. However knives also help us to cut up our food, and do other useful things. Many years ago, before money, we could give a knife to someone in exchange for something we wanted. Still doesn’t make the knife evil though….
When we learn to make peace with where we are, we also need to make peace with what we have, and how we acquire it. There is nothing inherently wrong with having money. It’s not unspiritual to have money. We just need to remember it’s only on form of exchange in obtaining what we want.
Another thing to bear in mind about what we want in life, is that we don’t always need money to obtain it. Many have a limiting belief that whatever we need we must pay for “There’s no such thing as a free lunch”. Ooof – pay! A word that can bring such negative connotations! An exchange is great – it keeps the flow of giving and receiving. But it doesn’t have to be money that’s exchanged. If we’re open to the possibility that what we need will come to us one way or another (rather than just limiting ourselves to having to pay for it) we can be surprised at how easily we manifest things we want. The Universe is often poised on the edge of its seat to give us all the things we’ve asked for. But we make it so difficult for the Universe to give them to us because we say “no, no, I must pay money for it, and I’ll never have enough money for it, so I’ll never have it”. Ouch!
What about if we just focused upon what it was we wanted, without worrying about how or where it will come from? What if we just trusted the Universe to bring it to us, and feel good about that, then act upon the intuitions we receive to allow it into our experience?
Here’s the thing. As long as we continue to believe in, and reinforce, our limiting beliefs, we will always struggle to manifest what we want. Make peace with where you are. Replace limiting beliefs with empowering ones. Trust the Universe to provide you with whatever you want and need. Be open to receive in a unlimited ways, and, importantly, make peace with money. It’s not money that makes the world go around, it’s gravity and other physical forces ;-)
